Creative takes on cookies

I won’t lie, cookies are probably one of my favourite things in the world. The modern world has given us a huge variety of experimental flavours, sizes, textures...they even come in cereal form if you just can’t wait for a reasonable time of day to get your fix! But we’re not here to talk about baked goods, I’ll save that for another time, let’s talk websites.

Cookies (on the web) are often essential in creating a better and more customised user experience for your visitors, but they’re also often a neglected aspect of the design phase. Modern GDPR laws and regulations require you to make the user aware that cookies are in use on your site, which can often feel like an inconvenience you could do without. As a result, they usually become an afterthought that gets bolted on at the last minute and make your shiny new website look a little disjointed.

But if cookies are essential, and informing the user of cookies is the law, then why not play with the cookie consent experience in the same way that you experiment with the rest of the site’s design? Of course, we shouldn’t forget the importance of the process - the UX is paramount and consent crucial - but the cookie policy is often the first thing a user will see as they land on your site, so shouldn’t we start giving them the same love and attention? Let’s take a look at some tasty cookie consent experiences from across the digital globe to help inspire your next project.
